Spring commissioning sets the tone for your entire season. A well-prepared boat is a safe, reliable, and enjoyable boat. Miss something during commissioning and you will almost certainly pay for it later — often at the worst possible moment.
Hull & Underbody
- Inspect hull for blistering, cracks, or impact damage from winter
- Apply antifouling paint (observe manufacturer's re-coat interval)
- Inspect and replace sacrificial anodes on hull, shaft, and trim tabs
- Check propeller for damage and inspect shaft seal for wear
- Inspect all through-hull fittings and operate every seacock
Engine & Mechanical
- Change engine oil and oil filter
- Replace primary and secondary fuel filters
- Check coolant level and condition (replace every two years)
- Inspect raw water impeller — replace if any doubt whatsoever
- Check all V-belts for wear and correct tension
- Test all bilge pumps (automatic and manual)
Safety Equipment
Check flare expiry dates. Confirm life raft service date and repack if due. Test EPIRB registration and battery. Inspect all life jackets and safety harnesses for condition. Brief all crew on emergency procedures before departure.
